Introduction
The Central Department of Sociology, Tribhuvan University (TU) had been conducting the MPhil in Sociology since 2012. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FoHSS) introduced a course-based PhD in different disciplines including Sociology in 2018. After three years of experience in PhD with coursework, parallel to the pre-existing MPhil programmes, the FoHSS realized the need for an MPhil led PhD programme. As a result, the current integrated MPhil-PhD programme in Sociology has been designed. The Central Department of Sociology will implement this programme.
Learning Objectives
The overall objective of the MPhil-PhD Programme in Sociology is to prepare students for independent and critical thinking with an advanced level of research capacity in the relevant fields of Sociology. It also aims to familiarize students with the debates and key facets of social structure, social change and social inequalities within and beyond Nepal. Since an advanced-level academic degree primarily focuses on research, this course aims to train students towards enhancing their research capacity by way of academic-methodological training and mentoring.
